Founded in 2009 by Axelle Acchiardo and Linda Gilardone after pursuing separate professional careers in Paris and abroad, LA Architectures quickly gained recognition for its work in housing and timber construction. The practice received the Prix de la Première Œuvre in 2014 for a 35-unit social housing project in Montreuil, followed by the Prix de la Jeune Femme Architecte in 2017. In 2020, the Jeanne d'Arc Nursery School in Paris was awarded the Prix National de la Construction Bois, followed by a second Prix National de la Construction Bois in 2023 for a 60-unit housing development in the Paul Meurice district of Paris. The practice has also received numerous other awards recognising the environmental quality and innovative use of timber and bio-based materials across its work.
For more than fifteen years, LA Architectures has developed a broad portfolio ranging from housing to public buildings and the transformation of existing structures. Recent projects reflect this diversity and include a mixed-use development comprising 75 social housing units, a student residence (in collaboration with Atelier Régis Roudil) and a neighbourhood media library in Paris's 13th arrondissement; a craft centre in the Belleville district of Paris; the extension of the GARAC automotive training centre in Argenteuil; and the Troyes International School Group, designed in collaboration with Architectures Raphaël Gabrion.
Since the completion of the Jeanne d'Arc Nursery School, the practice has developed extensive expertise in educational architecture, encompassing nursery and primary schools, after-school facilities, secondary schools, vocational training centres and university buildings, across new-build, refurbishment and extension projects. The development of spatially generous and environmentally responsible design solutions lies at the core of the studio's thinking and working methodology.
Today, LA Architectures is a multidisciplinary practice of around twenty architects and engineers whose strength lies in the diversity of perspectives and the collaborative nature of its design process. Each project is firmly rooted in its context, addressing both the building itself and its wider environment—whether urban fabric, street, neighbourhood or landscape. Improving everyday life, promoting well-being, and encouraging interaction, dialogue and curiosity through architecture remain central to the practice's approach.
Underlying this work is a shared ambition to rethink how architecture contributes to the making of the city and to social cohesion. Through projects that are both distinctive and deeply contextual, the practice seeks to create places that foster a genuine sense of well-being for those who inhabit them.
