Visitors centre - Speleon
Kristina Radelić
The Barać Cave Visitor Center is designed as a central reception and interpretation-educational place for visitors to the Barać Caves.
The idea is to present in one place, in a concise, interactive and visitor-friendly way, the geomorphological and geospeleological values of the karst area, the mosaic landscape of natural and semi-natural habitats, as well as the associated biodiversity of the Barać Cave Protected Landscape.
The area of the Barać Caves is under preventive landscape protection, so the appearance of the center is an important element in the value of its mosaic landscape.
The architectural design of the visitor center is designed to adapt its volume to the configuration of the terrain and to suggest the affiliation and harmony of the building with a valuable natural context. The selection of materials and the treatment of the facade of the building would interpret traditional materials in a contemporary way and suggest the idea of continuity with nature and ecological conscientiousness with its appearance.
The configuration of the terrain, on which the Visitor Center was formed, conditioned the design of the building within the given space.
