Kindergarten Kašina

The kindergarten in Kašina is a branch facility of the Sesvete Kindergarten. The project was implemented as one of the experimental projects of the City of Zagreb, with the aim of testing the possibilities of fast and economically efficient construction of kindergartens using a modular construction system.
The building is made of prefabricated steel construction elements, or modular units – containers, which enables a short construction phase with controlled costs and standardized construction quality.
The kindergarten includes nursery and kindergarten units, and the programmatic framework of the facility is based on their functional and spatial organization, with the orientation of the space towards the south to ensure optimal lighting and living conditions for children.
There is one nursery unit on the ground floor, while there are one nursery and two kindergarten units on the first floor. The ground floor and the first floor are connected by an internal staircase, located next to the multi-purpose gallery space, and by an elevator located directly next to the main entrance to the facility. The multi-purpose space is designed partly as a double-height space, which achieves spatial quality, better lighting and visual connection between floors.
The ground floor is organized as a utility block with a kitchen and dining room, while the spaces for educators are located on the first floor.
Most of the green and playground areas are located southeast of the building, and the nursery and kindergarten playgrounds are clearly separated spatially, in accordance with age groups and safety requirements.
