Iris Rampula-Farrag (Balloon Architekten)

The Zeltweg Education Campus is located in the heart of the town and borders directly on the main square. The building sections, which date back to both the Wilhelminian era and the 1960s, were comprehensively revitalized by ARGE reitmayr architekten - balloon architekten. This was also intended to strengthen the town center and revitalize the center. The restructuring of the building functions and the adaptation to modern forms of learning considerably increased the attractiveness of the combination of elementary school, secondary school, school administration and municipal library. ARGE was later also allowed to redesign the outdoor facilities into publicly accessible sports and leisure facilities in order to expand the range of uses for the town's residents.
Opening up the school complex to the people of Zeltweg has made it a place that creates identity in the community. New path connections to the adjacent courtyards and the car-free outdoor area invite people to linger.
High-quality materials and well thought-out furnishings such as the children's library and the gallery floors offer places of retreat and open learning zones. The increased use of wood creates a pleasant and warm atmosphere.
The central part of the building connects the schools and serves as a common entrance area. The publicly accessible library and the school administration are also located here.
By lowering the basement to the level of the main square, a direct connection to the secondary school was created. Pupils can enjoy the view of the main square from the learning kitchen and the seating windows.
The school renovation was followed by the redesign of the outdoor and sports facilities as well as traffic calming measures: Relocation of parking spaces, establishment of “Kiss & Ride” zones, unsealing of surfaces, new planting and the installation of seating furniture.
