WROCLAVIA Shopping Center – streets: Sucha, Borowska, Dyrekcyjna, and Joannitów in Wrocław
Anita Fokczynska
The area of the CH Wroclavia development site is 46,575 m². Currently, it is the biggest shopping mall in Poland .Due to the construction of Wroclavia, four streets were redeveloped: Sucha, Joannitów, Dyrekcyjna, and Borowska in Wrocław. The water supply and sewage networks were rebuilt. The project involved connecting the old existing sewage, water, and gas networks with the newly designed networks in the city center of Wrocław. The archival documentation was incomplete, and the situation reflected the aftermath of World War II (before the war, Wrocław was German, historically Breslau). An additional challenge was an old approximately 500-year-old oak tree in the construction area, which is protected (named 'Przewodnik'). Routing the networks around the oak was practically impossible. However, there were and still are old water and sewage networks there. After dendrological analysis, it turned out that the oak coexisted very well, particularly with the drainage, as it used water from the land's drainage. The project took into account all the recommendations of the dendrological analysis. The oak, 10 years after the construction, is doing well. It's an example of nature protection and the construction of the Wroclavia shopping center with various functions.
