The Special Education Centre in Moosburg received an extension in the garden with two classrooms, a group room, a cloakroom and toilets,
creating a free-standing school pavilion with a surrounding wooden terrace. The broad canopy with red waves protects the walkway, while the
subtle colour scheme of the outer shell characterises the Japanese-style pavilion.
The single-storey building was constructed using prefabricated wooden elements. The floor, walls and ceilings were assembled on site in nine
modules. Point foundations support the modules, while a rafter roof structure covered with corrugated fibre-cement sheets provides protection from the
weather. The façade is clad with triple-layered wooden panels, glazed in red, while the tiltable wood-aluminium windows and patio doors are flushmounted.
Inside, the load-bearing solid wood elements remain untreated and visible. A single material is used for the supporting structure, ceilings and walls,
namely wood. Load-bearing solid wood, solid structural timber, wood fibre insulation, triple-layered wood panels and compressed wooden fibres on the
ceiling. The floor, equipped with underfloor heating, is covered with robust, colourful natural rubber. Careful selection and processing have reduced
the potential emissions from the building products and interior furnishings. Natural ventilation concepts adapted to the use of the space, such as tiltable and turning windows, as well as French doors for cross-ventilation, ensure the desired indoor air quality. The children can find a new home at school, with a sense of security, warmth and materials that conserve our resources.
