Scenery Pavilion
Sofia Fors
Scenery Pavilion is a temporary multifunctional pavilion located within the baroque garden of Gl. Holtegaard in Denmark, where it engages with the existing landscape and its geometric order. The pavilion reinterprets the classical baroque staircase as a circular and continuous double stair elevated above the ground, giving the structure a floating presence within the garden. The structure creates new spatial sequences for movement, pause, and orientation within the landscape, offering changing perspectives of the garden.
The circular, non-directional form allows movement in and around the structure. As one moves along and around the pavilion, the experience of form, material, and color shifts, establishing changing relationships to the garden. The red side stands out clearly, while the reflective side blends into the landscape.
Constructed as a lightweight structure, the pavilion is designed for assembly, disassembly, and reuse. The elevated structure functions both as a passage and as a place for staying, allowing the space to be occupied in multiple ways over time and accommodating a range of uses.
