Pilot Area for New Work - Freising District Office

How does the citizen service center of the future work?
INPULS has developed a pilot space for the Freising District Office that addresses the current needs of society. To make efficient use of digital advancements while ensuring optimal inclusivity, the space was designed to foster new internal ways of working and to reimagine consultative processes. A human-centered design approach and a modular, multifunctional meander system emphasize sustainability and citizen engagement. The pilot space "New Ways of Working" in Freising sets a forward-looking example for future new buildings through its progressive and content-driven concept.

A 500-square-meter area was created in the old Freising barracks that offers all departments of the district office the opportunity to work in various test and experimental fields in a process-oriented manner. Departments take turns working in all fields in six-month rotations. At the end of each cycle, feedback workshops are held to ensure that the developed concepts are both practical and user-friendly.
The focus is on creating innovative spaces where both employees and citizens can work on new topics and processes. A consultation café transforms the often stressful atmosphere of classic district offices into a pleasant environment where citizens can wait for their appointments with a coffee and independently obtain information at digital stations.
A human-centered design, inspired by various skin tones in both form and color, emphasizes accessibility and citizen-friendliness. The modular, multifunctional meander system acts as a second skin for the historically protected existing building. The project demonstrates a sustainable character by ensuring that all elements can be reused in public institutions, schools, and kindergartens after the test phase.
The pilot project “New Work” Freising sets an example for future new constructions with a forward-looking, content-based engagement with the processes of all departments.
