The complex of historic clinics and institutes was designed by Arthur Buchwald and Joseph Waldhaus. I should mention that at that time Wrocław was a German city. The historical name was Breslau. A utility building, which used to serve as a kitchen, laundry, and boiler room in the hospital complex at the time, was designated for the creation of the Medical Simulation Center. The main idea behind the concept was the restoration of the building in line with conservation principles, complemented by newly designed architectural elements and advanced systems and technological devices. The basic functional layout of the interior was based on the historical spatial arrangement. The building’s shape remained unchanged. The building houses high-fidelity simulation labs for hospital areas such as the emergency department, intensive care unit, operating and delivery rooms, and the neonatology ward, all equipped with advanced medical simulators. The facility also includes an ambulance simulator. All these simulation areas required properly designed plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The existing chimney was used as the ventilation exhaust. The plumbing systems are not visible, but they play a key role in the functioning of the facility. The usable area of the Medical Simulation Center is 1,666 m².
