Innenstadt beleben - Spittal an der Drau, Teilbereich Rathausplatz

Sonja Gasparin

2017 competition, realization 2020.
The Square next to the Rathaus has been used mainly as parking lot before. The idea was to create an inner space for pedestrians, a secure place to be and walk around and at the same time to resolve the the problem of draining heavy weather rainfall amounts.
the Rathausplatz is the first of three Interventions to regain living-quality in the inner city of Spittal an der Drau.
Within the granite-surface of the floor we placed three so called "Wohnzimmer" "living-rooms", to create islands with special atmosphere, including lighting,
a big fountain, special seats for childrens to play and benches which are robust enough to remain elegantly over the coming years. artificial lighting and trees work together to form a linear system along the area with limited traffic, and are more freely set to emphasize the non-linearity of the inner square-area-use. Three special trees are set in situation which had to be highlited.
