Hematology Outpatient Clinic at Graz Provincial Hospital
Patient-friendly renovation of the Art Nouveau pavilion

The completely renovated and expanded hematology outpatient clinic is designed to offer patients the most pleasant stay possible — at least as far as the architecture can support this. That is why balloon architekten brought greenery from outside into the listed, Secessionist Art Nouveau pavilion, optimized the orientation system, and created interesting focal points designed by artist Bernhard Wolf.

The two-story pavilion on the grounds of the LKH originally housed the dental clinic.
The patient lounge was relocated to an extension with large openings that integrate the green park and the activity in front of the building and directly connect the interior and exterior.
As part of a generous renovation, the architects created new lines of sight that allow for quick orientation within the building.
Since patients often spend long periods of time in the building, for example during chemotherapy, artist Bernhard Wolf has added decorative elements to the walls and ceilings. These are intended to serve as focal points during waiting times.
A reinterpretation of the frieze, a characteristic stylistic element of Art Nouveau architecture, can be found in several rooms.
