Haus S_Bayerischer Wald

Regina Schineis

An existing old farmhouse, two storeys high with a barn, was extended to form an angular courtyard complex, using a subordinate structure inside the
volume that occupies less than a third of the area of the existing property. The new annexe for the daughter’s young family allows several generations
to live together in a contemporary setting. The 6-metre-wide and 12-metre-long building was built as a timber frame construction.
The living area opens up to the sun on the south and west sides, with a wooden post-and-beam façade. Large fixed glazing frames the view to the
north and east. The upper floor has a narrow balcony suspended from the roof, which also serves as a structural shading cover and cleaning balcony. The vertical fastening of the breathable black EPDM skin with rough-sawn spruce boards combines with the diagonal counter battens to create a lively
ornament.
