FONTENAY - Maison des familles

The Maison des Familles is a drop-in centre for families in need of daily access to comfort, child care and kitchen supplies. It offers also emergency accommodation and a temporary housing facility.

The public area is located on the ground floor and includes an outdoor courtyard where parents and children can spend time together. The interior walls, like the façade, are decorated in bright, cheerful colours. These living spaces, at the heart of the project, serve a variety of purposes: cooking, storing food, doing laundry, dealing with administrative matters and, more generally, recharging one’s batteries, playing, socialising and enjoying a peaceful moment in a safe and welcoming environment.

The former family bedrooms on the upper floors of the building have been converted to provide quality accommodation, ranging from studio flats to two-room flats. The interior fittings have been custom-designed to make the most of each space’s potential.

To minimise construction waste, as many existing building elements as possible have been retained: kitchen units, radiators, mirrors, built-in furniture and sanitary fittings have been reused on site.

The Abbé Pierre Foundation and the IKEA Foundation lent a helping hand, enabling the project to be completed with all the necessary fittings and décor to welcome families to this new, cheerful and welcoming social hub in the town of Fontenay-sous-Bois.
