Extension of BG/BRG Perchtoldsdorf

The extension of the BG/BRG Perchtoldsdorf takes place with a 3-storey annex. The extension takes up the comb-shaped structure of the existing building from the 70ies and extends it towards the east. A new spacious forecourt is created - square and schoolyard at the same time. This new identity-creating square not only underlines the campus concept, it also offers a high quality of stay and can be functionally combined with the auditorium and multi-purpose area on the entrance floor to form a spacious area with the garden behind it, as a new space for school festivals, the exhibition of public project work, theater workshops, etc.
The annex is designed as a compact extension of the existing volume and together with it forms a new school unit. Clear interfaces to the existing building and a careful treatment of the existing substance take into account an approach based on economic efficiency.
The school is accessed from Roseggergasse. By relocating the entrance area to the existing basement, a spacious entrance to the school and at the same time an inviting square in front of the school are created, which invites to stay and communicate. The checkroom remains and is extended towards the entrance area by approx. 80m² barrier-free. The attractive multi-purpose room formed the new center of the school and offers view and outdoor space reference. The direct connection of the multi-purpose room with the music hall makes it easy to use without thresholds. The location of the warm-up kitchen, dining hall, and lounge area in close proximity to the multipurpose room allows for good interaction, not only during school functions. The upper floors are accessed via an open seating staircase in the central axis.
This new central zone - illuminated by skylights and the generous opening of the facade to the north and connected by air spaces - forms an exciting spatial structure for stay, communication and open learning.
