Dachgeschoss Schloss Schöndorf

Claire Braun

Taking into account the historical heritage, the aim was to create contemporary living space in a centuries-old castle in the middle of an industrial area. To this end, a large part of the attic was demolished and renovated. Some of the old beams and girders were completely refurbished and integrated into the new architectural design. The sensitive combination of parts of the old construction with modern elements and smooth plasterboard surfaces creates a special atmosphere in the room. A continuous, wood-paneled center wall forms the backbone of the open attic space, which is up to five meters high. Generously designed glass surfaces and light bridges distribute the light evenly throughout the attic. This creates a bright and friendly living space above the old walls of the building, even on cloudy days.
