Cities for Women

The project aims to analyze domestic urban planning practices from a gender perspective and develop a guide for planners and citizens to create gender-sensitive cities and public spaces. The project was realized in 2020., within the Women's Architectural Society, with funding provided by UN Women.
As a first step, a survey was conducted to gather data on Serbian citizens' perceptions and experiences of public spaces. The survey aimed to raise awareness of the need for change and encourage citizen participation in urban planning.
At the Mikser Festival 2020, experts from various fields related to urban planning and gender studies convened to discuss the challenges and opportunities for creating more inclusive cities.
Based on the survey data and expert discussions, a guide that addresses the needs and challenges of all social groups was developed, with a particular focus on women and vulnerable populations. The guide offers practical tools and recommendations for planners, policymakers, and citizens to implement gender-sensitive urban development strategies.
Overall, the project seeks to empower citizens, particularly women, to participate in shaping their urban environments and ensure that public spaces are inclusive and accessible to all.
