Margarita Danou CY
35 Iosif Hadjiosif Ave. | 2027 Nicosia
Margarita Danou was born in Nicosia. After completing her studies at the University of Westminster and the Architectural Association (AA) in London, where she received her diploma in 1990, she returned to Nicosia to establish her own practice, Margarita Danou Architects.
Her portfolio spans a diverse range of projects, from private residences to major public infrastructures, including coastal promenades, parks, and pedestrian bridges. At the heart of her design philosophy is a deep exploration of how we experience space. She focuses on the interplay between structures, texture, and material to redefine the boundaries between private and social realms, creating environments characterized by transparency and openness.
Margarita’s excellence has been recognized through numerous awards and international accolades. Her projects, such as the Voroklini Coastal Promenade, the GSO Athletic Park in Limassol, and the Cyta Footbridge, have been nominated for the European Mies Van Der Rohe Prize. Furthermore, in 2004, she was honored along with Sevina Floridou with the Cyprus State Architecture Prize of exceptional Architectural work for the Voroklini Coastal Promenade.
Beyond her practice, she is also an associate unit tutor at the School of Architecture of the University of Nicosia. Her work is widely published in local and international books and magazines such as the “Atlas of World Contemporary Architecture” of Phaidon Press, the “Detail in Contemporary Landscape Architecture’” of Laurence King Publishing Ltd, the “Arhitext“ of the University of Bucharest, the Global Encyclopedia of Women in Architecture 1960–2020 and the Greek magazines “DOMES” and “TEFHOS”.
